Air-Gap, Physical Separation & Offsite Storage –
Protecting the Last Line of Recovery

sayFUSE VM Backup B6S16 integrates dedicated backup storage with six independently controlled backup drives in a centralized platform. It scales from a single appliance to an HCI cluster and combines backup storage, parallel backup operations, physical air gapping and controlled offsite storage in a software-independent recovery architecture.
Physical air gapping provides an additional layer of protection for backup data. Controlled offsite storage can be managed systematically and integrated into defined operational and security processes.
This creates a redundant and controlled backup architecture that protects data even if the primary infrastructure is compromised or fails.
Remove backup copies from the production attack surface.
Store backup media in separate fire compartments or physical locations.
Select, verify and restore recovery points through a controlled process.
A backup only provides reliable protection if at least one suitable recovery copy remains available after an attack on the production environment. sayFUSE VM Backup B6S16 combines high-performance backup storage, six removable and independently controlled backup drives, and controlled physical offsite storage in one integrated system.
The left-hand storage section provides up to 1 PB of capacity per appliance for ongoing backups and rapid recovery. The right-hand section contains six independently switchable drives as standard. With currently available media capacities of up to 40 TB per drive, up to 240 TB can be transferred to separate backup media in the standard configuration during a backup cycle, or distributed flexibly across multiple backup jobs.
This allows sayFUSE to combine high online backup capacity with physically separated backup media, creating an additional layer of protection for critical data.
One Platform – Three Flexible Operating Modes
Pooled Operation from a Single Appliance to an HCI Cluster
The B6S16 comes with six independently controlled backup drives as standard. An expansion module adds twelve more drives. When sayFUSE HCI nodes with backup functionality are deployed, the drives of all nodes appear as a shared, cluster-wide media pool. Ten backup nodes therefore provide 60 standard drives, while expansion modules further increase the available offsite storage capacity.
Parallel Operation and Flexible Software Assignment
Alternatively, backup drives can operate independently and in parallel — for example, with separate drives assigned to databases, email systems or other data classes.
Drives can also be assigned to different backup applications, including SEP sesam, Veeam and Commvault. Media pooling, parallel backup jobs and individual software assignments can be combined as required.
The Controlled Recovery Chain
1.Job-Controlled Activation
Before a backup begins, only the drive assigned to that specific job is activated.
2.Backup to Assigned Media
Data is transferred to the media pool or in parallel to individually assigned backup drives.
3.Power-Off and Air Gapping
Once the backup job is successfully completed, the drive is deactivated and disconnected from the active data path.
4.Removal and Offsite Storage
The backup medium is removed, cataloged and securely stored either internally or at an external location.
5.Controlled Recovery
In the event of an incident, a verified recovery point is restored through a controlled process.
The last line of recovery remains offline. Physical separation prevents continuous access to the final recovery copy. Offsite storage provides additional protection against fire, water damage, sabotage and site-level failures.
Open to Different Backup Strategies
Backup software can be selected according to the technical and operational requirements of each data class.
Storage, media management, physical separation (air gapping) and recovery remain integrated within a single platform.
Permissions, retention periods, encryption and data transfer paths can be individually defined according to the project, data classification and security requirements.
